Over the past year more than one employee has come to me asking if the City provides any assistance/benefits for adoptions. Our medical and dental carriers allow children placed for adoption to be added to coverage but there is nothing in place to help with the up-front fees.

What does your company offer for employees going through the adoption process?

We provide nothing other than allowing the employee to add the child to their health coverage, and 12 weeks of FMLA for bonding.

We do not offer anything for the "adoption costs" either. However, I have worked for a national large company that did offer some limited assistance. I think that a lot of this has "gone by the wayside" with cost saving means. However, some of the "larger national/international companies" are the ones that you will see offering this. I know that adoption can be very expensive.

Same here. We provide no special beneifts for adoptions. We treat an adoption that same as a birth. However, the ee's are really good about getting together with baby showers, etc....
