Health benefit PY 2006 rate increase

Just wondering what the average increase on health benefits are running. If you wouldn't mind sharing, what's your increase for PY2006 and are you fully or self funded. We are fully funded through BCBS of AL are facing 19% increase.

Our renewal rate came in with a 13% increase. We are currently in the process of going to a partially self funding.

BCBS just advised that our rate increase came it at almost 11%. We haven't done the dance yet. Last year we did not have a rate increase.

We got a rate hold from BCBS last year, after they offered a 1.7% increase. So this next year we expect a 17-23% increase. We won't know our actual premium increase until probably mid-November or later for a calendar year plan year. We're fully funded.

Just got our initial quote - 32% increase! So I'm thinking we'll be farming our census out again. Of course, that's what happens when you have a full blown heart attack and an ongoing flutter, two cancers, three broken bones, four asthmatics or diabetics, and three newborns for 52 eligible employees.

We had a 22% increase with BCBS even with low claims experience. Negotiated them down to 18%! Went to a higher copay plan (30/45 office, 500 outpatient and 1000 inpatient...was 20/35, 250, 500)which resulted in a 6.9% increase. We decided to reimburse our employees up to $500 per covered person for inpatient/outpatient.

Our increase from the HMO was 1.89%.

Our initial rate increase was 19% with good experience level. We are currently "doing the dance" with BC/BS of South Carolina to negotiate down. We are also looking at a self funding plan.

For our 2005-2006 plan year, we actually had a 1.1% decrease with BC/BS. We had a very good experience rating. This year has been about the same, so we don't anticipate any large increase for 2006-2007.

Added $500 deductible to BC/BS PPO plan and realized a -4% decrease in rates over Cigna. Our broker takes the plan to market every year, regardless of what the carrier is "promising". Keeps them honest, IMHO.

I fully expected our ee's to go crazy over the $500 deductible because they have been spoiled (rich plan, no increases in weekly contributions, 80% of premium paid by company for single through family for the past six or seven years) but they took it pretty well. Truth be told, the plan is still exceptionally rich.

BC/BS offered 13% increase with no change in benefits (Slightly below average experience rating). Elected 11.3% increase for base plan by going to 80/20 versus 90/10 after $500 deductible. Also, went from $10/20/35 drug plan to $10/20/40. We pay 100% for employee coverage and 75% for Family coverage.
