Custody Issue

The custody order was for two years. In accordance with the order, we placed the children on our group health insurance plan.

I have been informed by two different people this week that the maternal mother of the children (over 18, not a dependant) left the state with the children over the weekend. From all accounts it was done with the full knowledge of the grandparents, although there is obviously some stress there.

My question is what, if anything, should be done regarding the insurance coverage? This is obviously a very emotional time for the grandparents but I do not want to have the children covered under our insurance if it is not necessary.

You do not say who gave you this information. You apparantly have not spoken with the grandparents. Until you know the facts, no decision can be made (it is always possible that the children are visiting with their mother for a week or two).

I don't think I would do anything without a change in the court order. At best, I might talk to the employee and ask if there had been a change to the court order.

Until I had a court order or other qualifying event, I wouldn't make any changes. Unfortunately, it sounds as if those kids may need the insurance more now than ever, especially the counseling benefits.
