info to give to new mothers - maternity kit?

I have been asked to develop a kit of information to give to our employees that are about to go on maternity leave. This kit would include information about the short-term disability process, a reminder of the services our EAP can provide re finding childcare and anything else that would be helpful in helping employees return to work smoothly. We've also brainstormed about including a bib with the company logo on it or something like that.

Do any of you do something similiar? If so, what kinds of information do you provide? Do you provide any gifts?

Any ideas are much appreciated!

We provide information via our corporate website which includes: updating benefits information to include new baby,requesting family leave, updating beneficiary information, books for babies, counseling for new parents, flexible work arrangements, parenting tips, childcare providers and adoption assistance.

We do not give gifts but I think that is a very cute idea. Bibs are very useful.

With as much "babysitting" that sometimes goes on, maybe not a bad idea for not only expectant mothers, but the total workforce!!

Our employees are able to get free formula though one of our vendors. Perhaps a gift certificate to a local grocery store could be included in your package?

Have you decided on a name yet?

We've decided on a couple. If the baby's a girl she will either be Alicia Raye or Nicole Lynn. A boy will be Eric Matthew or Bo Douglas. We'll wait and see what it looks like when the baby gets here.

Just the devil's advocate in me...are you going to provide the same info for new dads?

We've discussed giving the information on child care referral services and any possible gift to new dads. The only hitch is that we don't always know when our male employees have new babies since they don't all add them to insurance.

This is true, but I think you should make every effort to include your dads. Granted you may have a dad who didn't add to insurance who may say hey, 'Why did Joe's baby get a bib and mine didn't?' and you can say, 'Oh you had baby? Congratulations, here's your info pack.' I just don't feel comfortable with making this available for women only. My bet is that once a few people start to get your packet with gift, the word will spread- everyone loves a freebie from the company and will be sure to tell their friends to call HR for the childcare info, knowing full well baby gets a free bib.
