RX Card?

We currently have a RX Card - the employee pays $8.00/Generic, $20.00/PReferred and $40.00/Brand. Last year we doubled all co-pays expect those on generic - trying to get people to use generic and be more aware of the costs. Due to costs we are considering doing away with the RX Card, adding a Deductible, they would have to pay upfront and submit for reimbursement. What are you doing and would you please share your RX Co-pays if you have them?

  • Our prescriptions are included with our health & dental coverage. Employees currently pay at the pharmacy a copay of $10 for generic, $20 for preferred brands, and $30 for non-preferred brands. We also have a maintenance mail order benefit which gives a 90-day supply for copays of $20 generic, $40 preferred brands, and $60 non-preferred brands.
  • We're public sector and in WI, so you wouldn't want our copays, but what we have are $5 generic, 10% brand (min $10, max $25/prescription). I'm looking to double the copays in this year's negotiations. If you haven't already, you should look at your generic substitution rate: in spite of our low difference, we get a very high generic substitution rate (80 -90%), so you may not need a substantial difference to accomplish that. I like the % copay as opposed to a flat dollar amount, it gets employees more involved in the cost of their drugs.
