mid year election change under cafeteria plan

Can an employee drop their group health plan to sign up for Family Health plus or change from family coverage to employee/spouse coverage to sign their children up for Child Health Plus?

Can an employee drop their group health insurance plan to sign up for a health plan offered by their church, or an individual plan that they have found to be less expensive?

  • Mid-year changes are tricky. The first place to start is to look at the language of your plan, and see what it provides. In addition, there are new cafeteria plan regulations governing mid-year elections that became effective on January 1, 2002. Double-check with those.
