Procedural Question

We're revamping our Orientation process. Specifically we're looking to cram more info into our one allotted day.....

Currently our Benefits Specialist spends about 1 - 1 1/2 hours with our orientation group explaining the various plans, answering questions etc. Do other organizations include this aspect in Orientation or do new ee meet with the benefits specialist on an individual basis?

Thanks for any input.

  • We do both, although the first contact is just an overview. Within a few days, depending on the effective date of insurance, ect. the employee comes back for a lengthier visit with our Benefits person. All of the brochures, etc are given to the employee up front so that they can review and make decision, they are reminded of that when the appoinment is set up and when they arrive they usually are prepared to do the enrollments that need to be done.
  • We try and isolate the benefit orientation to a day other than the first orientation day. We have found that the information overloand was too much for them and HR would end up spending more time at a later date anyway. Our benefit specialist meets with them the following week.
