Can we force employees to take health coverage if they have to pay?

We are switching to 80/20 pay, with the employee picking up 20% of the premium, where we paid 100$ before. Since we are not paying for 100% of the premium, can we require employees to take at least employee coverage? I'm in Louisiana. I always thought you could not. My attorney says there is nothing on the federal level, but he has to check state law......? Does anyone know? And where can I find the documentation?

I know several employers that require employees to carry individual coverage on themselves as a condition of employment. Every year during open enrollment, they must provide proof that they have coverage somewhere else. The default for not enrolling or providing proof is a single coverage deduction to pay the employee part of their cheapest plan. It is doable, but none of the employers I have worked with are in Louisana. Wish I could be more help!
