Paid Military Leave

Does anyone's organization offer pay during part or all of Military Leave? I'd be interested in hearing as many specifcs as you're willing to share. I am updating our policy and am interested in how folks handle the issue of supporting a staff member at the level he or she would normally be earning, while on Military Leave.

We are currently "making whole" anyone who has been called up to active duty. .we are paying them the difference between their wage here and the military and have not set a limit on how long we will do so. A generous policy and I believe most employers are not doing that much.. .a lot, I think, depends on your culture. We are a small town with several bases close by. For routine military leave we adhere to state statute.

Generally, I've seen companies pay employees the difference between their active-duty pay and their normal pay. I think most companies say they'll do it for a certain number of months, in case someone is gone a very long time.

Here's a sad story about a family's financial burdens when the husband got called up for active duty.

Thanks for this link. It gave me some helpful anecdotal experience, and some other ideas (paying for health insurance, like some of the states mentioned).

My company is paying the difference military pay and their regular company salary for 6 months.

We are a sales company with 27 branch offices nationwide. We are a private company and we do not pay an employee their wages while they are on military leave. Of course, we hold their jobs but the time off is unpaid.
