Benefit for 1 of our PT employees

One of our PT employees would like to use our fitness center benefit (we pay 60% of the fee for a local fitness center). Benefits are currently offered to FT employees only. What kind of trouble, if any, do we get into if we allow this 1 PT employee to use this benefit?

    If your intention is to offer this benefit to only one (1)PT individual, I think this is ill advised. Your success in explaining that this person qualifies while the other PT'ers do not, is an obvious employee relations nightmare. I just think there are too many practical and legal pitfalls/issues to justify doing this for that one (1) employee. Denying the request and inflaming 1 person is better than approving it and having many others start with the "me too" or "why not me" attitude.

    Our part-time employees receive prorated benefits based on average hours worked...except for health, 401(k), etc dictated by plan descriptions.
