Are employers required to compensate an injured worker when they initially go to a clinic to have the injury checked? This would be an hourly worker, during normal work hours, and a minor injury? Jody

You may want to check with your state about this.

Our company pays the employee for their full shift on the day of the injury even if it happens early in the morning and the employee doesn't return to work.

Can't speak for NM, but not in Florida. The employer is responsible for the cost of the visit itself, and if the worker travels and incurs mileage, he/she can be reimbursed for mileage to travel to/from the visit. Comb through your state's w/c regs and see if you can find something. If you have no other source and are insured by a w/c carrier, make a call to your state department that oversees insurance. You should be able to get an answer there.
