Recert?

Employee has taken approved intermittent leave for her father's cancer treatments (leave dated January 2007). Father now needs heart surgery because of a condition caused by the treatment. I do need to recertify the leave, correct? It is a new condition, albeit caused by the original. There was no end date listed on the original certification. Her mother also needs surgery. That would be separate paperwork also, right?

I need to clearly explain this to the employee as she tends to forget specifics and spin it to her needs/beliefs.
