FMLA Disabled Child's Childcare

One of our employees needed time off to arrange for childcare for his developmentally disabled son because his estranged wife suddenly refused to keep watching the boy. The employee says it is more difficult to find childcare due to his son's condition. It took him approximately one week of time off to make the arrangement. Could this time off be counted against his FMLA leave entitlement (assuming, of course, we notified him of it's conditional FMLA qualification when he took the leave)?
