WC waiting period

In GA, there is a 7-day waiting period before WC benefits kick in. However, if you are out 21 days or longer, they will go back and reimburse you for those first 7 days. In the past, my company has paid employees during that 7-day waiting period, but a directive has come down stating that is no more. EE's will have to use their PTO time those first seven days.
I was curious to know what other companies do?

We do not pay our employees for the waiting period. We make them wait it out without pay. They can use PTO if they wish.

Yeah, we do not pay our employees either. After the 21 days they get the first 7 but we try to get everyone back before then, which is hard to do without a return to work policy. If they are not receiving any tyype of pay they will have more of an incentive to get back to work and not sit around getting paid.

I agree that it is more difficult to get people back quickly if they are still on the company payroll. Also, when we pay for the first seven days but the employee is out more than 14, we have to have our payroll debit out those days from the employee's next pay through us, which is logistically tough.
