Overlap of restricted days on OSHA 300

I have a couple of employee injuries that occurred late in 2002, and the days of restricted duty either occurred in 2003 or overlapped into 2003. How do I list this on the OSHA log? If I list the accident in 2002, with no days, that's accurate for 2002, but doesn't give the full story. Do I list the accident again on the 2003 log with the number of days in 2003?

It's time to post the summary this week. Help!

It does not matter when the restricted days occur, they go on the log where the injury is recorded. So if a person hurt in December has 20 restricted duty days in January that would be recorded on last years log.

Thanks for that info. What would you do if they were still off or on restricted duty on Jan. 31 when you were ready to post the log?

After year end, I update the log monthly. I do not recall what the regs call for. I note the last time updated in pencil, so if I have to produce it one can easily calculate the days.

I talked with a gentleman in the OSHA office in Chicago just last week regarding this very issue...his answer was that you record the injury/illness on the 2002 OSHA 300 form and estimate the number of lost and/or restricted days that will be associated with the injury/illness. Then, later on when the employee returns to regular duty, you go back and correct the 300 form for the year 2002. He also reminded me that once 180 days of lost/restricted time occurs, they don't care about what the final number will be...you can quit counting once you hit 180 days.
