Back injury while water skiing

An employee injured his back during a non-work activity. He went to his own doctor. He went back to work and bent over to pick up a mat. His back acted up on him again from bending over at work. Is this now a work related injury or is it still a result of a non-work activity? Thanks.

(in my state)you should go ahead and file it as a work related injury if he insists that's what it is. When your carrier gets the information regarding the skiing accident, they will get his medical records from that and will 'controvert' the claim.

I agree with Don, when it doubt, file it. Let the carrier make the determination from there.

I agree with the above. File, but give the insurance company a big heads up. Unfortunately, you may be on the hook if his work "aggravated" the pre-existing condition.
