Overview of Worker's Comp.

I am the sole hr person for a small software company
and am responsible for all functions including worker's
comp. This is an area where I have little knowledge.
Can anyone suggest a place (website, literature etc.)
where I can go to get the basics? For example, I need
to obtain a panel of physicians for referral and need
to understand the law for multiple states because we
have employees in different states. Also, do states
charge a fee of some sort for worker's comp.? Any insight
would be helpful.

M. Lee Smith Publishers (the sponsor of HRhero.com) publishes several workers' comp newsletters and handbooks, some of which are state-specific. Here's a link to those publications:

Also, check with Michael Adams, the editor of the Florida Workers' Comp Reporter and the On Workers' Compensation (National Edition). He can probably point you in the right direction. You can reach him at onworkcomp@aol.com .
