Worker's Comp Statute of Limitation Laws?

An employee sustains injury on job w/Employer 1. Is set up for surgery, but opts out due to getting a different job with Employer 2. Work with Employer aggravates the condition but was not the employer where original injury was sustained. Employee now needs surgery. Can employee claim on Employer 1's worker's comp insurance or does employee have go with current employer's worker's comp carrier? (Employee left that Employer 14 months ago.)
