CFRA vs. FMLA

We are in CA and have an employee eligible for FMLA to take care of his sick mother.. (it is NOT a pregnancy situation.) Can anyone tell me what is the "difference" between the two? He would only be entitled to one leave, right? (12 weeks, etc.) and does it matter if we call it FMLA or CFRA? (I am also aware of the Paid Family Leave, which he will get.), but when I look at FMLA and CFRA, I don't see any differences!
