Another maternity question

Should we require a soon to be mother to turn in a medical certification? If so when should we ask for this to be turned in. She still has about 5 weeks but not sure exactly when she will have the baby. Also is there any paper work I need from her before the baby is born? As far as I know I need to maybe? get a cerification and tell her to call her supervisor once she has the baby and we will begin her 12 weeks on that qualifying date. This is my first birth of a child FMLA so any help in the proper steps would be appreciated x:-/ Thanks!

You should do all the paperwork that you would with any other temporarily disabled person. Have the FMLA paperwork completed as soon as possible. If she is already out you can start the 12 week clock now. If she is going to work up until birth (or as close as possible) let her know that the FMLA papers can be filled out with the expected due date but if she needs to go out earlier, a doctor's note will suffice.
