We have an exempt employee who is pregnant. Can we deduct the time she takes off for her doctor's appointments off the 12 weeks? Can they be charged to her paid sick leave as well? We require that employees use their paid time (sick and vacation) towards their 12 weeks.

In my opinion, yes, yes, and yes!

Pregnancy is a serious health condition for purposes of FMLA and you can require her to use FMLA leave and sick and vacation time. You should provide the approprate notices and tell her that you are counting the time off for doctor's visits as part of the FMLA leave. Of course, all of this assumes that she is entitled to FMLA leave.
