Paying Back Premiums

Excuse me for venting but one thing that really bothers me about FMLA is that employers have to hold a position for 12 weeks, pay the premiums for an employee and then that employee comes back, works for a week and gives notice.
(I am sure she did this to avoid having to pay back premiums).
Not only that, but she doesn't want to give the required four week notice and then got upset when she found out she would not get her PTO paid to her without proper notice (legal in our state).
We worked with this person on intermittant leave and adjusting her schedule prior to her baby's delivery date and, of course, the time after the birth. She has since found out that she can make more money staying home on public assistance and putting her family on Medicaid than working, so that is what she is going to do.
As I tell folks in my training classes, all employment laws started out as good and for the benefit of employees, but they have been legislated to death!
Whew! That feels better!
