Co-op Students

Hello,
I'm curious if there are any financial institutions out there that allow Co-op Students (15 -17 years old) to work on the teller line?

I'm not sure what you mean by co-op students. Are these work study students who would only be with you for the semester?

Yes, but not just a semester. They stay the whole school year and then the summer.

We have high school students that work for us in the summer. They sometimes are able to work a few Saturdays during the school year also then return the next summer.

Depends on the students ability, but yes we have placed High School students on the Teller line. To my recollection we have had no more difficulties with them than with part-time college students. We do not hire anyone under the age of 16. As far as our bank is concerned they are part-time employees as we go through the same hiring process for them as we do any other part-time employee. We have for serveral years now had a High School Sr. from their business class work as a part-time employee in our Bookkeeping Dept. This posiiton delivers and picks up the mail both internally and at the local post office, only one block away.

We have employed high school students on the teller line for years now, generally using them as extra help during their summer break from school, although a few have worked for us a couple hours a day after school also. Several of them have started at age 17 or so and come back every year during the summer breaks and then, once they've gone away to college, they come back and work on their summer breaks and even Christmas break if we need them. One of them, who had several years of working summers on the teller line, came back to work for us as a loan officer after finishing college. Overall, I'd say we haven't had any more problems with them than we have people we've hired in at the age of 18 after they're out of school, and some of them have turned out to be great employees.
