Silver lining to a RIF

A few months back I posted a message about a RIF that was taking place in a large company. My friend who had worked for the company for 18 years lost his job as did one dozen other folks in their 40s and 50s. Shocking, no? Anyway, there is a happy ending. Although he hasn't found similar paying work, he is MUCH happier. He said that at first the news was shocking. Since his performance was always good and he received annual raises and bonuses based on his performance, the fact that he lost his job floored him initially. Now that a few months have passed, he said that he is actually happier than he's been in years. He said that since he'd been at that job for so long he never recognized how stressful and unsupportive the working environment was. So although he's not making as much $ as before, he is richer in more important ways. Happy ending!
