We have decided to test typing speed (and accuracy) for two new positions we have. Does anyone have any software they use in-house that they recommend? The only thing I could find online is freeware and shareware, which I'll be looking at later today.

I'm basically looking for a 10 minutes or less test. Thanks for your help!

No it is not free, but we did a package where for $99 (total) you got 3 months of unlimited tests. If you're going through a hiring period, it's worth the $33 a month.

After looking at 3 programs, and testing two, I went with Speed Typing Test 2000 (No, I didn't name it) software. It costs just $23.00 per workstation. This program tests speed and accuracy. We like it because we can create tests using our type of content, and it prints out a list of "scores" for everyone who took the test.

It's not elegant, but it certainly fills our need.

Should not have used this software!!!

When we installed it, several of us took the test. It seemed to record WPM accurately.

Then we started testing applicants.....

We discovered that the software was NOT always computing the time correctly. It seemed to work some or most of the time, but sometimes would not accurately track the time spent typing, so test was invalid.

So now we're calling the applicants who failed and offer them to come back in and test again.

Sometimes the best, thought-out, tested plan just crashes and burns!
