International (U.K.) pre-employment testing

Does anyone know if there is any international regulation about pre-employment testing for the United Kindgom? We are in the final stages of hiring a sales person in this area but I just found out that our corporate office hadn't arranged for any pre-employment testing and they were the ones to coordinate this hire for us. FYI, stateside we always conduct a physical, drug screen and background check for all new hires.

I'm having our legal attorney help with getting me in contact with someone in the U.K for legal questions but I thought I would ask if anyone out here may know the answer. Looking forward to your response...thanks!
