Plant Closures

Our company is planning on closing a site in Arizona. Has anyone worked thru the experience of shut downs/closures? I am looking for help on putting together a checklist of action items. Any help or guidance to websites I can check out will be greatly appreciated. I've already checked out SHRM.

What kind of site are you closing? Offices? Manufacturing?

It's a resort: Golf course, restaurante and hotel.

Also, the plan is to re-open with new management. I'd love to hear from you if you have ideas in that area too.

The DOL web-site has information on the WARN Act. If you have an EAP they may be able to offer some assistance. We went through a large ROF two years ago and the EAP came in and gave classes on dealing with change. Also, contact your state unemployment office, our local office was very helpful. Good Luck.

We prepared for a WARN but did not have to use it. The State Employment service was the best help we had preparing; they'll also keep you legal.
