Employee liability

I have a basic question about the employer/employee relationship that has come up in the context of a release I am drafting for an employee/owner of my client who has decided to leave the business. Does the employer have a cause of action against an employee for wrongful acts committed by the employee within the scope of his or her employment for which acts the employer is held liable to a third person? For example, if the employee injures a third person while acting within the scope of his or her employment and the employer is sued by and found to be liable to the third person for the employee's acts, can be employer require the employee to reimburse it for the damages it was required to pay to the third party?
