Automatic External Defibrillators

Greetings All!

Our County has rec'd the very generous gift of 3 Auto External Defibrillators (AEDs)from a private citizen.

We were thrilled to get these and would like to place them at key points in the County facilities as they were intended.

I am finding however that of course strings are attached;such as a policy, medical direction, liaibilities, etc.

Does anyone have a policy for AEDs in their facilities?

  • We purchased an AED but did not create a policy. Instead, we contracted with the vendor to provide training to employee volunteers and posted the names and contact info next to the AED. We then added a bullet to our Emergency Procedures policy referencing the AED and trained volunteers. But we didn't do anything beyond that.

Liabilities are covered by state laws, in many cases, and typically provide good samaritan protections.
  • We did the same thing as AJ SPHR. I personally think that it is the best way to limit your liability while complying with all applicable regulations.
