unpaid interns

Where can I find information regarding unpaid interns in the workplace? I seem to recall someone telling me they are limited in the type of work they can do.

Thanks!

  • You might check with your local college's career office. They deal with internships all the time and would probably be able to give you a sense of the scope and limits of what "unpaid interns" can do.

Everytime I hear the term "unpaid interns" I think of the movie "The Life Aquatic" with Bill Murray. That movie is definitely not a good resource for establishing a solid intern program.
  • Hello GA,
Not knowing what kind of organization you have, but if it is healthcare with accredition, then the intern must go through the same process as a new hire including a job description and a tool to measure their competency. Of course all with supervision. Unless the intern falls under child labor laws, then follow the law.
