Renting behavior

I read recently that employers "don't hire jobs, they rent behavior". Interesting concept.

To hire the best people, find those that can offer the right behaviors.

Is behavioral interviewing still a hot concept in hiring or has something else come along?

I received a flyer just this week from some HR vendor attempting to sell such a product. I agree with the concept that you can teach most ee's the tasks and/or job duties, but it is difficult if not impossible to teach someone how to be naturally friendly or to always have a positive attitude.
I heard Bob Hope once say that you can't buy love; but you can rent it. Is this along the same line?

I've heard this for a long time and I've recently come to the decision that I don't buy it. I've seen some of the nicest most committed people in the world get cut from their jobs because they just can't do the job. I say, you need a combination of both - behavior and aptitude.

How did these nice employees get their jobs in the first place if they couldn't do them?
