We have three employees that wise to take an accounting class at our local Community College.
This is not a company requirement. Our company has agreed to pay for the classes once the employees have successfully completed the course. My question is; are we required to pay for the time spent in class?

We don't pay for the ee's time in class unless we send them to training.
Hope this helps.
As I understand it, the bottom line is IF you require the employees to attend a class as a part of their job, you must pay for the time to attend the class. If the employees are attending the class to get promoted to other positions or otherwise further their careers, you don't have to pay for attendance time.
