1099 forms for States

Does anyone have a current list of which states require 1099 forms to be sent. I have all the W-2 information, however, we just lost our tax specialist and my Accounts Payable employee is trying to get out the 1099's and needs to know which states do and which states do not require a copy of the 1099 forms. We have 1099 forms for all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Thanks
Shirley

  • The only real answer to your question is just to contact each state's revenue department. I have only had to do 1099's in 2 states. I did them for California back in the 80's and now do them for Kansas. In both cases, I printed the 1099's on multiple copy forms. One of which, was a state copy. In each case I sent the state copy, along with a photo-copy of my federal 1096 to the state's department of revenue.

I just had another thought. The people who sell you the forms might have more info on it. You might try them.

    Good luck!

  • I just wanted to say "hi" to my friend Shirley (WildSporty) who I visited with while on a business trip to Idaho. Shirley was a gracious host and gave me the grand tour of her organization. I think for both of us it was the first time we have met a forumite in person.
  • Mutual to you Paul. We talk to others but never actually put a face to the words. It was great meeting someone from the forum and actually seeing to whom I had spoken.

  • I did just that (called all the states)and it was an eye opener. A few states wanted the 1099's with the Federal 1096 form, a couple wanted their own form filled out, but the majority did not even want the 1099's unless they had state withholding on them.
