Michigan Social Security Number Privacy Act

The Act appears to allow employers who currently use SSN as employee identifiers to continue that practice past the 1/1/06 compliance deadline. Are others reading the Act the same way?

  • The "Act" addresses restrictions on how the SSN's have to be protected from public viewing effective January 1, 2006. My understanding of it is that you can still use them for internal employment/insurance related purposes (and requires federal/state reporting purposes) as long as they are protected from public viewing & kept confidential.
