For some reason, I cannot find the regulation on previous driving record checks (previous employers) for newly hired CDL drivers. Can someone point me to the reg?
Uff da, there's a reg. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regs (CFR Title 49). How much of it applies to you depends on the types of vehicles and driving you do. There are requirements for background checks for new hires where you verify previous driving record and if the applicant has failed or refused any drug/alcohol screens. There may be state regs also. We lease some of our trucks and the leasing company has been helpful in figuring out what portions of the regs apply to us. They even give us new hire packets with all the verification forms for CDL guys.
I didn't know in particular what reg he was asking about; there are so many of them. Some years ago I worked for a refrigerated carrier with upwards of 3000 CDL Class A w/Hazmat drivers, all OTR. Background verification checks were an integral part of the process, one of the most time consuming pieces of it all. So much so that we contracted with an agency, provided them space and had seven or eight of their employees doing it for us on an outsourced basis. This is precisely one of the reasons God made beer.
DON'T ASK ME, "my time on the computer is limited these days", and "Oink, Oink and squeel" is all that I get for a translation, and that is very restful to know that they care to even reply at all, to this tread on CDLs.
Uff da is a Norwegian expression that conveys annoyance or exasperation. It's sort of the Norwegian version of Oi vey. Say it out loud, with the emphasis on the Uff, and it sounds like it's meaning. Toss in a little roll of the eyes and you've got it!
Uff Da question was to Kiwi's post. I don't know why it showed up under yours Don. I was trying to figure out if he thought S Moll was stupid for not knowing there was a reg or if asking for a copy of aplicant's driving record was a stupid question.
No, I did not consider S Moll's question to be stupid and I hope she didn't take my reply that way. When I got out my copy of the FMCSR and fwoomped the 400+ page book on my desk so I could look up the cite for Hunter, I Uff Da'd. It's a whole lot of reg.
