Georgia Employers - Smoke Free Air Act

Are there any fellow state of Georgia HR folks out there who have information on the employee notification requirement of the July 1st "Smokefree Air Act"?

  • I'm in GA. It is my understanding that the law only has to be enforced if there are employees who are 18 and younger. I may be wrong, but if I am then having ee's walk 50ft. away from the building is not going to be that big of a deal.
  • The June 2005 issue of Ga Employment Law has a good summary on pg 3. You can get the entire bill by going to legis.state.ga.us/legis/2005_06 and search for SB90 (Senate Bill 90).

I believe the distance is 25 ft not 50 ft and the 18 year old exemption only applies to bar/restaurant type facilities, i.e., if no one under the age of 18 is allowed in the bar/restaurant then smoking is permitted.
