Part-time employees

Do 9 month and 10 month employees have paid holiday benefits? Are they considered part-time employees? Thanks.

No federal or state laws require or suggest an obligation for the employer to grant paid holidays or vacations. So, it is entirely up to the individual employer to establish its own policy on that. Typically, for insurance and other purposes, I've seen more than 30 hours a week considered full time. But, again, that is up to the employer to define.
  • Welcome, Burt. Are the 9 and 10 month employees seasonal workers? We don't give paid holidays to our seasonal employees, but we do give it to permanent part-time employees. Our regular full-time employees receive that benefit immediately; no waiting period.

Do you have an employee handbook that addresses paid holidays?
