COBRA Paid with Strike Fund Monies?

Our labor union, PACE, recently merged with The United Steelworkers.

I know that a strike is considered a COBRA event and thus strikers are entitled to COBRA.

Do any of you know if the Steelworkers or other unions pay their members monies specifically to pay their COBRA premiums from their strike fund?

When the union at the former company I worked went on strike, the EEs did NOT receive funds for COBRA. They received $100.00 per week strike pay, although they had to picket ALL the hours they were scheduled. The insurance, or lack therof, was the one issue that caused striking EEs to consider crossing the picket lines.

Thanks for your response. I assume that COBRA rates would be too much for most strike funds, but I guess I have been in management too long and as a result naive about strike funds.
