Have you EVER???

Not sure if this is the right place for this post, but, I am sure I will be told if it is wrong :-)

Has anyone ever heard of a Supervisor receiving a verbal resignation from an ee and then letting that ee go on vacation prior to writing a written resignation?? I am dumbfounded quite frankly and just a little bit pissed off. Any thoughts? The ee in question came back, met with the COO and was told the same thing HR and her supervisor had told her. NOW she wants to apply for another position in the company (working directly with said supervisor) She will not get that position (duh) but, still no written resignation.
