Tracking attendance/tardiness

Hi all. I am having a difficult time tracking attendance/tardines, leave of absences, etc. Currently, I have individual forms for each ee and codes for the leaves, but it is getting harder and harder to fill them out. I think there may be a more streamlined system. We are on a tight budget so purchasing an expensive software program isn't an option.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks.

I have the perfect solution - hire our assistant controller away from us and get her out of my hair. If you want someone who will be completely AR about tracking attendance, you're welcome to her. x;-)

Seriously, we have a pretty simple homegrown Excel spreadsheet calendaring system that we use (we're only 186 ees) and it seems to work fairly well. How many ees do you have?

Have 90 employees. We have them fill out a leave request that their manager signs and then comes to HR to sign. Not considered improved until I do. Helps me double check with time sheets.

I also use an inexpensive software program that I purchased from GNeil companies. [url]www.gneil.com[/url]. Only costs about $150 and it works fine. Will print you out a report for their personnel file.

Do you know Microsoft Access? You can set up databases for each type of absence with codes and also run reports from it.

It is called Employee Attendance Tracking Made Easy (MyBiz Attendance). They keep updating this program all the time and making it better and I feel it is inexpensive.

I still do it the old fashioned way--by hand. I too have a separate sheet for each employee and record their daily attendance on it. I track for about 160 employees and it isn't a problem. I've been doing it for 15 years. It takes me less than an hour a day (barring interruptions that is). Employees fill out a request for absence slip, have their supervisor approve it then the supervisor gives it to me. I record all absences on a master schedule then transfer that to each employee's sheet on a daily basis. Maybe I'm a little more AR than most but to me it's like basketweaving for an hour a day. It isn't something I have to spend a lot of time thinking about, I just do it. I did at one time consider a program for tracking but decided it is easier to just write it out in longhand than go to the computer, access records, type in information, etc. My method works fine for me.

Used to do it this way too until my job responsibilites kept growing, just not enough time. Employees now fill a leave request prior to going, they swipe when working on timeclocks, swipes go to internet, supervisors approve swipes and also enter notes for time off not previously turned in and send them to me payday. Print out a report that goes into this simple attendance program (which I have an assistant to do). Works great with my 90 employees.

Agree with Rad - MS Access is easy to use and a part of MS Office. My HR specialist recently printed a report for a manager on a specific employee - it was exactly what he was looking for.
