We want to change from an outside security department to an internal department. I realize all of the uniform, benefits issues but I am having a problem with the hourly rate.
We are a hospital in the mid-atlantic area and need to know the range (hourly rate range) for a security guard.
Can you help?

If you are the same hospital located in Wilmington, you could probably survey the other one. I believe they have security staff of their own. They might be willing to share.

Ours are paid about 10.50/hour to start. Frankly though, I think they are underpaid for what is asked of them. In setting a wage, keep in mind that these people are your first line of defense, possibly will carry weapons, and be responsible for the security of your facility. The salary should be set at a level to attract the best, most dedicated applicants.

I would also try your State Department of Labor, or whatever they call it down there. They generally keep wage statistics on various occupations.
