Seriously though, ours is the Friday before when the holiday falls on Saturday, or the Monday after when it falls on Sunday.

I'm at a state agency. If a state or national holiday falls on a weekend it is not observed, regardless of the shift pattern of the individual worker.

We always have Dec. 24 & 25 and Dec. 31 & Jan 1 off. So this year, we have Dec. 24 & 31 off. Dec. 25 becomes a floating holiday that can be taken at any time. Jan 1, 2005 will be a floating holiday for 2005.

The owners promise 10 paid holidays a year, so they felt obligated to work something out.

Since we are in the hospitality industry, most of our ee's work all of the normal holidays (Thanksgiving, Labor Day, etc) so we take our holidays during the last two days of Christmas and return to work January 2nd.

Ive been doing it so long I forget its not the normal routine.

We are in the automotive industry, we will be off from Dec. 24 to Monday Jan 3rd. If it were another holiday that fell on the weekend we would not observe it. Such as the 4th of July we will work Friday and Monday.

For our bank, employees who generally work on Saturday will get the actual day; M-Fers will get a floating holiday to be used in the first quarter of the year.

At our bank, we will close at noon on Christmas Eve Friday, as we normally do. We will be closed Satuarday, Christmas day and back open for BAU on Monday. Similar program for New Years Day, only we close at 3:00 in the afternoon on New Years Eve.

Manufacturing plant here - since it's typically a slow season anyway (most of our customers close the entire week btw Xmas and New Years) We are taking our two days for Xmas as Friday 12/24 and Monday 12/27 and then Friday 12/31 as the NY holiday. Then SNAFU (instead of BAU ) on Monday 1/3/05.

Both for Christmas 2004 and New Year's we are giving our employee's the option of taking Friday or Monday off, but we will be open for business both days so the manager has to have at least 50% staff on each day.
