New York State Personnel Files

Can someone tell me if New York is one of the states that has a law permitting employees to view their own personnel files ? If so, are there any specific rules ?

    Checking my trusty HR law source, NY does not have a law concerning ee access to personnel files. Each employer can set their own policy. The only exception is ee's can have access to records regarding their exposure to hazardous chemicals.

    My research concurs with Ray's. However, public officers have the right to view their personnel files provided they show reasonable proof of their identity.

    Sorry, but I just pictured a scenario whereby hereby George Bush, or John Kerrey (please notice, I do not discriminate because of party affiliation) surrounded by secret service and the press having to prove to some one who they are and not having with them either a drivers license or passport.
