Bathroom Etiquette

An employee complained about another unidentified co-worker who repeateded uses the bathroom without cleaning up the seat. Our on staff hygienist are concerned about people not washing their hands -- and\or bringing work documents into the bathroom (for potential distribution to others).

Any ideas on how to handle this would be appreciated.

This has been discussed several times on the forum...and always bring much amusement and frequently, grossness.

This might be a good time for a retelling of the bathroom stall artist story...

anyway, sometimes this has been adressed with memos reminding ee's of the importance of being sanitary...some have taken more extreme routes...

This is a tough subject to address that you probably thought you'd left in grade school!

I often see tellers wash before using the facilities and not wash after. Guess they think money is dirtier than S..tuff.

Try putting up a hand sanitation station in or near the restroom. Many people who won't take time to wash with soap and water will use the alcohol based sanitizer. Even placing the pump bottles of sanitizer in a few key locations will help.

If I read correctly, the main/primary issue is "uses the bathroom without cleaning up the seat". I have had some success with posting a note on the inside of the stall's door.

Something like:

Our aim is to keep this place clean. Your aim will help tremdously.

Your mother does not work here. Please clean up after yourself.

I think you get the picture.

I can assure you the talking toilet seat willnot work! Most guys I know, when confronted witha a talking toilet seat, which not only talks but presumable gives them a direct order, will simply say" *&%##* **!#@%", kick the seat, lose their balance and make a bigger mess. Got a seat that reaches out and delivers a more personal message? You inventors out there - GET TO WORK!

Speaking of bathroom ettiquette... Our Maintenance supervisor told me this morning he was trying to unclog a toilet over the weekend in the facility. He ended up shoving a plumbers snake down and it got stuck and he had to pull hard to remove it. It came out covered in feathers. Someone flushed a bird. Gives whole new meaning to "flipping the bird".

The poor guy was probably 'biking to work' and got the damned thing caught in his braces. He had to dispose of it in an environmentally friendly fashion and besides, it was a proper burial, at sea.
