Job Titles:Do we have to call them Operators???

We are trying to think of a nicer sounding title for our injection molding machine operators...our new CEO has a problem with the title "Operator" since he feels that it implies a job at the bottom of the heap with little thought or responsibility involved....does anyone have a better alternative??? Thanks for your help!

  • Our company experienced the same thing many years ago. Someone came up with the idea of adding the term "Quality" to every job title. Therefore, operators became "Quality Operator A", "Quality Operator B", etc.
Seemed pretty lame to me, but it seemed to appease the masses.
  • What about "technician"? That sounds a little better than "operator."

We already have Set-up Technicians--I suppose Operators could be Product Technicians....
  • That would work. Or "specialist" or something along those lines. Look up synonyms for those words in your Thesarus and you'd probably find other likely terms as well.
  • TECHNICIAN IS THE TERM THAT WE HAVE BEGUN TO USE> SENIOR TECH, SUPER TECH, THEN BEGIN TO EVOLVE.

You might try "Big Blow or even, Super Blow"; Our "collectors" are technicians at gengerly collecting semen with sperm from the Boar Hogs. Our General Manager just did not feel the collector name was powerful enough to describe these men and women. They are certainly not machine operators.

    My humor for the day!

  • It never dawned on me that such a job could exist, Pork... I may be from Nebraska but I know nada about livestock. If they don't have machines to do this, do the techs have to "extract" from the piggies manually? (Trying to keep it clean, here...) x:-8

  • Wow-what a job! I once interviewed a candidate who spent 7 years as a turkey inseminator....I imagine pigs would be worse!
  • Collecting sperm from hogs.............hmmm makes you realize a bad day in HR ain't all that bad!

  • UGH! Tooooo much information.
  • It is not like collecting milk with a milking machine! We train the Boars to enjoy and give up the vital key ingredient of our business with little human contact, but there is human contact it is ever so gentle. The little "piggies" are the result, and they must grow up to become a choice stock and a member of the "exclusive boar herd". The boars once trained get to participate on the average of twice a week for their entire life and they run very rapidly to the collecting station when it is their turn and the ee must be very fast or he/she may miss the vital juices of about a Quart at a time. Believe me, as a swine herdsman this is the choice position. Only the best of our ee's get selected and retained for these positions. JUST IN TIME LOGISTICS HAS NEVER BEEN SO CRITICAL TO A BUSINESS. Collect our juices and get it to the operating farm site this morning to be used this afternoon and tomorrow. Our boars grow from 300 pounds to around 800 pounds, before they are no longer of value because they do not produce semen and sperm means a fast track to "Jimmy Dean" or some other swine meat processor.

NOW YOU HAVE SOOOOO MUCH MORE INFORMATION AND YOU ARE SMARTER FOR IT.

May we all get to be the "Super Boar" who produces thousands of "piglets" to feed this hunger world of ours.

  • It's not what you call them, it's how you treat them. Generally someone treated with respect and dealt with consistently doesn't care what their name is.
  • Howabout "Operator with Pizzaz", or "Supreme Being Operator", or "The Operator Who Needs No Introduction"? OR you could even go with "The Artist Formerly Known As Operator". x0:)
