Sure does depend on the grandmother. I know when I am blessed with a grandchild how I look at it will be totally different from how my own grandmothers used to see things......although at 52, I sure seem to be getting more & more of all my grandmother's thoughts and feelngs.

It's a good thing when ethics policies are being written. A policy, however, is just a policy and unless the top honcho's are buying into this, the policy will be just a piece of paper. Then, if you have a problem with ethical behavior, the policy will stand out like a sore thumb and will be worse than not having one.

If this shows up twice, I guess it will just be redundant. It is good that everyone wants to write an ethics policy, but they will just be pieces of paper if the top honcho's aren't behind it. Then, if their is an ethical problem, the policy will stick out like a sore thumb and will be worse than not having one.

In addition to having a policy, my company also requires employees to annually review and certify their compliance with the ethics policy (in addition to certifying at time of hire). They would also disclose potential conflicts of interests that weren't previously disclosed at that time. We were counseled to separate this process from our review process, so we created a global online certification system. This was partially due to the Enron scandal. Now all reports of noncompliance or conflicts are brought to our Ethics Committee and potentially, the Board of Directors.
