Safety Policy for Oil & Gas Company

Does anyone have a Safety Policy they would be willing to share? We are an oil and gas company and annually give out "safety" awards for employees who have not had an accident or workers comp. claim during the year. We have no written criteria on what constitutes an "accident". We have just purchased another company and now have over 100 employees. I am the HR Manager and feel strongly that we need to have specific criteria for determining whether or not employees or eligible for safety awards. Can anyone help?

  • We are a propane company with 78 employees and have a relatively simple "safety incentive program" which rewards employees for following safety practices.
for each hour that an employee works, a safety point will be earned. these safety points will accumulate towards an award which will be given out for each 2500 points achieved. only hours worked are counted toward the program. sick, vacation, personal days, etc are not coutned towards the safety points.
It is possible for employees to lose or reset their accrued points if they lose productive time from work due to an injury. Any unsafe act that causes an employee or fellow employee to lose time would also result in the the loss of points. A complete loss of safety points occurs due to 1)a reportable OSHA injury or 2)an avoidable vehicular accident. the ee will lose 1/2 of his safety points due to a 1)preventable accident without injury 2)minor fender benders
This was an easy spreadsheet to put together, and I update it monthly. The 2500 points are reached easily in approx a year-give or take a couple months depending on overtime of course.. hope this helps
