Well, I enjoy reading the posts, but seldom participate. I'm surprised at the tone that these posts have taken. I'm looking forward to finding out if and how the situation was resolved. Happy Friday.
What is it about the 'tones' that you find surprising? Are you surprised that a varied assortment and concoction of HR professionals from coast to coast, covering 50 states would actually have bold opinions of their own, often divergent? So what's the problem with that? I think it's quite healthy and instructive myself.
Without more information from Jennifer I can only guess, but I didn't read her post that she neccessarily had a problem. . maybe just an observation. I agree with healthy and instructive, but ya gotta admit, it's been a bit lively around here what with our new friend with multiple personalites etc. Never a dull moment which is why I remain addicted. x:D
My thoughts too, Ray. Was wondering if Steelboy was a "plant" to get things going again..I love a mystery so this has all been entertaining and intriguing to me. This is where you are all free to say I need to get a life.
I just stumbled on to the very long thread and found it to be: * informative * containing divergent opinions, but all based on business experiences and strategies * inclusive of potential employment legislation that might necessitate more formal responses * quite humorous at certain points! It was interesting to read posts from people who have such a strong way to assert their opinions, especially when they really were in violent agreement!x:D
I just wonder, what did the original poster end up doing in this situation? Any update?
Oh and I wholeheartedly agree with Don who states that it's perfectly acceptable, and in many cases preferred, to mix business with humor. In my humble opinion ;;)
I'm curious as to what ultimately happened as well. It's got to be more than coincidental that when things get "animated" in our postings and the participants violently disagree (or agree) about a particular course of action, the individual who posed the question in the first place invariably disappears never to be seen again. Hmmmm...
Since you both mention 'violent agreement', I'm going back to see if I can find that in our posts. I hope neither agreement nor disagreement would be violent. Heated maybe. But I doubt even that. The guy is a plant and plants can't be violent. Some do require heat or (ultra)violet, but not violent. x:-)
Okay, maybe not violent, but certainly animated if not heated. In fact it was kind of interesting. I think Don was pontificating one particular point and on the surface it looked like he was disagreeing with someone. Then you read the other person's post and they are principally in agreement with each other. Rather humorous. Maybe we could get Congress to adopt this little technique. "Violent Agreement." We could hold seminars. x;-)
If the Steelboys of the world are plants to stimulate debate that means we're all essentially lab rats. Is it possible? Are we all just tools of HR Hero? Is there a gigantic conspiracy to keep us feeding them with opinion? Could the "Magic Bullet" be THAT pristine? I'd better duck out the side door before a hit squad shows up at the office looking for me.
I like the way Crout thinks. Next to wishing I could have had lunch with Richard Nixon, I would like to have a beer or two with Crout. The rest of my list remains sealed until 10 years after my death.
Parabeagle, I think you're right about the original poster fading into the woodwork when the discussion gets too vigorous or rambling. I figure that the meat of the topic is usually discussed fully in the first 10-20 replies. After that, the discussion often starts to morph into something entirely different. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Crout, the hit squad didn't get to you in time? (It's the lady who used to be at the top of the web page, armed with an Ugly Gun.)
I am the original poster. I faded into the woodwork because I haven't had a chance to check the post in a while, and, things tend to get a little repetitive after the first 20...or take turns. I don't have an update on the situation, things continue as they always have. I give it a week or 2 until things get bad again, at which time we'll actually sit the ee down and have a "heart-to-heart" (pardon the Valentine's pun).

And beagle, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you. Keep that low profile - the HR lady is gunning for you!
