Allowable Sick Days

Along the same lines as a couple earlier posts...How many absences do you allow your employees to have per year before they are disciplined or dismissed? We're re-writing our Attendance Policy because we think we allow too many. We dismiss an employee on their 9th absence.

  • We do it on the 7th absence within the last 12 months.
  • Sorry, I bleive we allow more than you. Our policy states, "...more than five occurrences (not consecutive days) within any twelve month period is considered excessive and is grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termindation." For example if someone is off three days with the flu this will count as only one occurrence. When the five occurrences are met,we begin our progressive discipline program. We have never dismissed anyone for being absent. However, we have dismissed a few for excessive tardys. We consider four occurrences of being tardy in a four week period to be excessive and then we go through the progressive process.
Good luck with your new plan,
