If Portland is a "portly" town (pun intended), none of the portly people must live around here.
Beaverton is a suburb of Portland (or as Mwild would call it, a "bedroom farmland.") and is about 20 minutes from downtown Portland. It's also become a haven for businesses that erect huge office campuses - Nike, Intel, etc.
I don't think Portland is particularly 'portly' nor the surrounding areas. Do you think it could have been Portland, Maine? Although :-?, between the flannel & the old military jackets the guys in Portland, Oregon wear, I may be wrong....
Ray: Don't worry; he'll forget it all by tomorrow. A man who, because of his 70s behavior, can't even remember to bring the beer, surely can't find his way from Beaverton to another point in Oregon without roadside assistance, and certainly won't recall your slamming him so well. He doesn't even remember the fight with his brother last Thursday afternoon. x:-)
I know I'm jumping in late, but that never stopped me before...
Deez, I would be a bit concerned about the manager of your store. It sounds as if he/she was against being open, and that's always a red flag for me. A good retail manager is always looking to try something new, which certainly would include being open on a holiday. I get nervous about managers who look for reasons to *not* sell more.

Hey Beags, just how far is Beaverton from Portland? Maps I've been looking at make it appear pretty darn close. x:D
